I just signed up for a service yesterday in an effort to see if I would actually get any new followers.  Twitter itself has really taken off as of late and it’s becoming a very powerful marketing tool.  The amount of applications being created solely for twitter makes me wonder why Twitter isn’t showing ads on their website.  I understand that they want to keep twitter free, but it could still be free and have ads on it.  Even if twitter had only adsense on it, there would still be a large influx of income to the increasingly popular website.

I’ve always thought that people were perfectly fine with having advertisements on sites that are free to them, I think most users would rather have a few advertisements in the end than having to pay for some of the free services they enjoy.  Imagine if Facebook charged you for usage of their website, instead of just allowing ads to make them money.  Facebooks millions of users would be reduced to a much smaller portion.  Now I must admit that if Facebook just NOW started charging for it’s users to be allowed to access the content, there’s a good chance that a large portion of people would pay for it.  However there would also be a huge backlash from the users.

I’ve somewhat gotten off topic on this blog, it almost seems like a rant.  Extremely popular websites amaze me with what they can do, but I feel that if they were marketed and monetized properly they could do even more.  If you don’t have social networking accounts I highly suggest you get them.  Networking is invaluable in our industry.  At the beginning of the post I told you about a website I signed up for, I’m going to give you guys the link to sign your twitter accounts up for it.  As with most viral marketing it requires you to get new signups underneath you so I won’t even try to hide my link, I’ll just put it out in the open.  If you want to start to get an influx of twitter followers to network with, go signup to this website – it takes only a moment of your time and it sends out one tweet.  http://tweetergetter.com/coop56
