I think for sure all 5 points are valid, but the first is critical. Totally sucks trying to compete in a competitive niche. takes forever to get a ranking and you are having to share so much traffic. Good tips.

A tip I have might be start 2 blogs at once so you can test different styles and methods as you build. It might be very hard if you have trouble with just one, but it can be very well worth it long term.
