I’m not normally one to blog about politics, or even talk about it for that matter. I have my beliefs which hold true for me and I really don’t like to involve myself in petty arguments over the lies politicians tell each other and us to get elected. While I do lean democrat, Obama wasn’t my first choice but I was still relieved on election night when the democrats won. However that doesn’t matter, this is a matter of our livelihoods, this article is insane in my opinion.

A new bill named the The Cybersecurity Act of 2009 would allow for the president to “declare a cybersecurity emergency”, and shut down or limit Internet traffic in any “critical” information network. This would be done in the interest of national security. I suppose I can somewhat see where this is coming from, but then I really don’t agree with it. It would be a very very large problem for our industry. It would be a disaster if we were unable to access our campaigns and shut them down. We would be spending money that we couldn’t track and would have no idea what was going on. I know that it seems like a small issue compared to the multitude of issues that this would bring about, but this is our livelihood and the only way we can work is using the internet.
I can’t imagine that the shutdown would be done very well, it would be very scattered I assume and tough to control. I also am not sure how hard it would be, and what length of a process it would be to bring it all back up afterwards. What are your opinions on his ability to control whether or not we get to go to work today?
