On a recent trip to Borders bookstore for game development books, I was sidetracked and ended up in the marketing section of the store. Go figure, right? =P
Anyway, I saw a book called “The Truth About Email Marketing” and having been interested in email marketing for the past few months, this book definitely peaked my interest. I eventually decided to purchase it and so far really like it. I’ve made my decision to make the leap into email marketing using a double opt-in list that I’ll be collecting myself.
I’m going to use PPC to drive the traffic to a landing page that will offer a free e-book on the particular subject. My plan after that is to use Aweber as an auto-responder. Currently I have 8 emails to put into my list, but you can bet your ass that will be growing very quickly. I’m thinking that I’m going to split the first few all apart by about 3 days or so — probably longer depending on what it is. I’ve setup my list of emails to send out in a way that they compliment each other. The setup is in the order that you should get each product — along with some filler emails to build trust and show them that I really am genuinely there to help them out.
I will only be using products that I personally have tried and think are worth purchasing. This is definitely a new approach for me as I am typically used to selling the products on our featured affiliate networks. I usually run those untested (like most others). Suffice it to say though, I’ll be interested in seeing how well this goes. I really think that I can knock out three birds with one stone here with the list building, strengthening my personal brand through earning trust and finally selling only the products that are worthwhile to the buyers.
This is definitely far out of the realm that I normally take and will be keeping you updated as to how it goes.

Jeremiah – glad you enjoyed the book and found it helpful.
