On the eve of the NFL Draft, I was thinking about how affiliate marketing may or may not be similar to running a professional sporting organization. Then I got to thinking about how the NFL Draft was similar to something as simple as researching different keywords for your AM campaigns — or even scouring through the lists and lists of numerous AM campaigns to start running themselves!
Everything that we do is directly related to our conversion percentages for the most part, so each and every move or action that we take must be thoroughly researched and thought about. If not, we could risk not getting the best possible conversion percentage or even worse, not running a successful campaign what-so-ever!
It’s the same with sporting teams and how football teams approach the NFL Draft. A portion of each of their organizations are SPECIFICALLY devoted to JUST scouting out the players the team should select! The amount of work and research they put into their draft selections is incredible, but you can see why they do it. They have to sign each of their picks to some sort of contract, with the earlier round picks getting some pretty hefty contracts! The similarities to affiliate marketing are pretty prevalent, you just have to think about it.
What can you learn from all of this though? Well, you can learn that you need to treat everything that you do as a business — because that is what it is. Just because you work for yourself and could realistically take a day off whenever you wanted doesn’t mean you can slack off and half-ass everything all of the time. How would that make sense from a business perspective?
You should be striving to make as much money as possible each and every day you put work in. You should be taking days off only when you can afford to and don’t have anything significant going on. If you’re like any of the affiliate and internet marketers that I know, you’ll have to be pulled hair and teeth by people to take a day off because you don’t want to risk any possible amount of money that you can be making.
So as your watching the NFL Draft tomorrow, if you plan to, think about how you can start taking every single decision and action you make as an affiliate or internet marketer and start doing it knowing that it will be the best and most profitable one you can make.
And hopefully you’re only watching it with one eye because you still have some other work going on!
